the rice is cooking beautifully in the rice cooker (1:2 ratio, 1 Katori rice, two cups water). add Cumin seeds and a little bit of butter:
tandoori chicken (you knew this was gonna happen). we did not cook all of the marinated chicken last time and put half of it in the freezer. so now it's comin out to be cooked. cover the tray with aluminum foil and spray with canola oil.
take out the frozen pieces of marinated chicken:
Bake in toaster around 400 degrees. since it's frozen and we will have to separate the pieces Eventually, keep a close eye:
Sprinkle with lavanbhaskar churan and garnish with lemon wedges:
Happy Mother's Day ~
Here is how you make kaale chunne (black chickpeas), a protein-ridden food that is so good for you and delicious with rice.
[Store Kaale chunne in a big glass jar]. Soak a cup and a half overnight in water.
the next day, put kaale chunne and enough water to soak all the chunne in a pressure cooker. add salt and cook on high for twenty minutes.
open cooker carefully:
in a separate pan, add chopped onion in oil and brown:
then add about five karchis (3/4 cup?) of crushed tomatoes to onions:
cook:
then add onion tomato mixture into kaale chunne:
add regular masalas (turmeric, red mirchi (spice), and garam masala (coriander and cumin ) and boil with no cover for a bit on high/medium high:
here is the arbi (taro root). peel, cut and boil taro root in water in the microwave for twenty minutes. when soft, add in pan with oil. add cumin seeds and chaat masala (can buy) and lemon juice and chopped onion and tomato. voila.
and we will have leftover bandh gobi and pakodi in the yogurt. yay!!!! and ladoo for dessert.

Add Thadka to Daal (adding Onions and Masala to Daals)
Thadka is the last and critical phase in the daal completion process. You add his final element to most daals. if you don't like onion, you can add jeera (cumin seeds) instead ~
beautiful resulting daal mixture:
chop onion as fine as you'd like:
add to small pan with warm oil in it:
let onions brown:
once they're brown, THEN add garam masala and red mirchi:
stir and then add to daal:
pour a little daal onto pan to let remaining spices flow into the pot:
Voila:
Split Moong and Masoor Daal
Store daals in big glass jars:
measure half katori (bowl) of each: moong (yellow) and masar (pink) daal
stir both together in bigger bowl and add water to wash:
then strain:
in pot add water (ratio is 1:5, daal: water), daal, turmeric (about half tsp) and salt (1/4 tsp). put on high to cook. let foam come to the top and then scoop out while it comes to a boil.
excellent scooping:
after taking out all foam and letting boil on high for about five minutes, turn to low and let cook and stir in between ~ the result will be a nice smooth mixture:
please see 'Split Moong and Masar Daal w Thadka' to add the onion and masala mixture at the end.
Gobi w peas
not to toot my own horn or anything but I make a mean gobi dish:
cut cauliflower:
in big pot, put in oil and let it warm up. then add jeera (cumin) seeds. let seeds brown and cook:
add cauliflower and frozen peas to oil and cumin seeds and then add turmeric, garam masala (coriander/cumin powders), red mirchi (spice) and salt:
stir and adore the beautiful mixture:
then cover and let cook on medium:
